عقد تجمع محاربة الإدمان على المخدرات ندوة اجتماعية لنشر الوعي واتخاذ إجراءات على أرض الواقع. وقد شارك في هذه الندوة نخبة من الأطباء والناشطين الاجتماعيين وتم البحث عن اهمية التعاون بين الأطباء والمرضى وعائلاتهم أيضا.
يذكر بأن هذه الوحدة هي الرائدة في مدينة ديربورن وديربورن هايتس في مجال نشر الوعي والثقافة حول هذا الموضوع الذي إذا استمر بالانتشار يؤدي الى عواقب وخيمة جدا.

SAFE Substance Abuse Coalition Community Forum: Gateway Drugs & Addiction
The SAFE Coalition, led by executive Director, Hassan F. Abdallah held a forum tonight addressing the importance of understanding gateway substances and how they can lead to lasting harmful addictions.
Dr. Ed Jouney, Dr. Lobna Fakih, Dr. Norma Elhasan, Rabih Darwishe and Ali Sayed also lead the discussion from the panel. The conversation touched on the importance of understanding that marijuana is an addictive drug that is dangerously being accepted socially and culturally within our community. Dr. Ed Jouney focused on the education of understanding how to deal with individuals with an addiction, the sensitivity required, and the importance of family members knowing how to go about receiving treatment.
The SAFE Coalition is leading the Dearborn and Dearborn Heights community in prevention education on substance abuse.
Hassan Abdallah stressed the importance of the community needing to take a more active role and not just talking about the issue. "Each one of us can play a role in making a difference in how our community not only approaches addiction - but how we are taking action to save lives."
